Gioia Zappani began dancing at the age of 7 with The Academy of Dance Arts, where she joined the competitive team. Shortly after, at the age of 8, she started training in Faubourg School of Ballet. Under Mr. Watmora Casey she learned to love ballet. His amazing talent of teaching made Gioia a stronger achiever. She competed in the 2013 YAGP in Chicago and placed 1st in contemporary and 3rd in ballet, which qualified her to the finals in New York. She also competed in the 2014 YAGP in Denver, Colorado.
In 2012 and 2013 Gioia was also a member of contemporary youth Visceral Studio Company in Chicago and trained under the direction of Nick Pupillo. In 2016 she received film credit as a ballerina in the Indie film Margaret and the Moon. She joined Chicago Ballet Conservatory, where she had an opportunity to perform in the Nutcracker and compete in the 2017 YAGP, placing top 12. In 2017 Gioia attended A&A Ballet Summer Intensive and continued to work with Alexei Kremnev and Anna Reznik for the next two years, furthering her pre-professional ballet training. During this time Gioia competed in the 2018 YAGP— placing 1st in ballet— and had numerous performances in the Nutcracker, Cinderella, and Sleeping Beauty. As much as she loved being a ballerina, her love for contemporary was growing stronger than ever. She missed Visceral Studio Company with Nick Pupillo. This year she will be returning to her Visceral family and couldn’t be any happier.
