Born in South Korea, Mathis Joubert grew up in France where, inspired by break dance videos on YouTube, he embarked upon his dance career.
At the age of 16, Mathis began his ballet training at VM Ballet. Three short years later, he won first place for Get Up & fais ton truc, « Best Talent » Award at Amsterdam’s International Competition and second for Contemporary in Europe.
In 2016, Mathis moved to New York City to join the certification program of Peridance as a full scholarship student. A year later, he joined the scholarship program at The Ailey School for two years. Mathis also received summer intensive scholarships at Lines Ballet, Complexions, Jacob’s Pillow, Hubbard Street, and Spectrum Dance Theater.
Mathis’ opportunities abound: he performed at the 25th anniversary gala of Complexions Contemporary Ballet, had the fortune to dance with Ray Mercer, Jennifer Archibald, Brice Mousset, Igal Perry at Arch Ballet, as well as with Francesca Harper / Nick Cave’s The Let Go at Park Avenue Armory. In addition he danced for the Sultan D’Abu Dhabi’s private ceremony in Hollywood and was invited to perform in France’s Got Talents and competed in the semifinals of Das SuperTalent in Germany.
