Erika Shi is a Chinese-American performing artist entering her fifth season with Visceral Dance Chicago and is in pursuit of deepening her knowledge and connection with her being, her instrument. Originally from Ohio, Erika began dancing at the Canton Ballet, where she trained under the direction of Cassandra Crowley. She graduated summa cum laude in 2022 from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, where she earned a BFA in Dance. At the University, Erika was also a part of the Darwin T. Turner Scholars program. She was invited to join New York Dance Project by Nicole Duffy in 2020, where she performed in Gerald Arpino’s “Birthday Variations” and “Viva Vivaldi” and worked with Madison Hicks, Gabrielle Lamb, Emily Green, Ephrat Asherie, and Maleek Washington. Since joining Visceral, Erika has worked with and performed works by Micaela Taylor, Marco Palomino, Kevin O’Day, Gustavo Ramirez Sansano, Roderick George, Danielle Agami, Tess Renaud, Kia Smith and Annie Franklin. Recently, she worked with Noelle Kayser for her dance film “Glad for the Rain” and with Akira Uchida at b12 in Berlin, Germany.  Alongside dancing, Erika teaches at the Rooted Space and Visceral Dance Center and hopes to grow her choreographic endeavors. Last season, she choreographed for Visceral Dance’s trainee program and past Within shows.
