Nia Davis is a passionate artist whose mission is to captivate audiences by combining dynamic physicality with the expression of raw emotions. She began her dance training at Edge School of the Arts in Jamaica, Queens in 2011. From 2014 to 2018, she attended Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts in New York City majoring in dance. Following high school, Nia graduated from George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia with her BFA in Dance under the direction of Karen Reedy in May 2022. During her time at Mason, she was able to participate in numerous residencies with choreographers such as Hope Boykin, Alejandro Cerrudo, Camille A. Brown, Rafael Bonachela, and Andonis Foniodakis. 

 

After graduation, Nia became a company member with Visceral Dance Chicago in August 2022. She has been able to travel and perform works by Nick Pupillo, Gustavo Ramírez Sansano, Marco Palomino,  Roderick George, Cyrie Topete, Hanna Brictson, Mónica Cervantes, Marguerite Donlon, Danielle Agami, Micaela Taylor and Kevin O’Day. After relocating to Chicago, Nia has been able to create her own works and present them nationally at DualRivet’s Made by Women Festival and Nõ Studios Dance Fest. To further her artistic development this summer, Nia attended Springboard Danse, where she was able to be a part of new works by Sidra Bell Dance New York and Welcome To Campfire. Before this summer, Nia attended A.I.M. by Kyle Abraham, BODYTRAFFIC, Alonzo King Lines Ballet, and MOVE NYC.  Nia is grateful to share her love and knowledge of dance by teaching several technique classes, workshops, and choreography throughout the year. 

 

Visceral has been a place for Nia to learn, evolve, and experience opportunities that she is forever grateful for. She is looking forward to a transformative fifth season with the company to keep pushing the boundaries of her professional career and welcome new experiences.
